JAPN 303: Business Japanese
Course Description: This course develops functional use of Japanese language for various types of situations and events that occur in the daily business environment. The types of situations include formal introductions, basic business rules, business etiquette, honorifics, and how to write business documents and email. It also presents and expands on cultural perspectives and concepts as they impact the business world.
In order to meet the MLO 1 requirements, this course taught us business level polite forms of Japanese and word usage. We studied proper business Japanese mannerisms, the differences in keigo (Japanese polite speech), how to write formally in Japanese, and other aspects of Japanese business life. We also learned through examples given in actual Japanese business drama television shows.
At the end of the semester, we created our own business dramas using all that we learned throughout the semester.
